Italian photographer Alessandro Puccinelli (Alessandro Puccinelli) was born in 1969. After moving to Australia in 1993, he began working as an advertising photographer. On returning to Italy, he devoted himself to commercial photography as well as personal projects.
His photographs have been recognised among the best in prestigious international competitions, including the Sony World Photography Awards, International Photography Awards, Black and White Photography Awards and Hasselblad Masters.
At the age of sixteen, Alessandro discovered surfing, and it was then that a powerful draw to the sea took hold of him — one that would shape his work and become an inexhaustible source of inspiration. He frequently turns to the Italian coastline as a place to restore his inner equilibrium, replenish his energy and expand his portfolio.
In search of new experiences, the photographer decided to travel from Italy to Spain and Portugal in a second-hand 1983 Hymer camper van.
In search of new experiences, the photographer decided to travel from Italy to Spain and Portugal in a second-hand 1983 Hymer camper van. Stopping near the westernmost point of Europe, Alessandro created the remarkable series A Van in the Sea of boundless sky.
Explaining his passion for the sea, the photographer says: "To some extent the sea is my guide through life; I think of the sea as an example and a source of knowledge. The presence of the ocean in my everyday life is a balancing factor that helps me reconnect with that inner equilibrium which, as a human being, I too easily lose. The sea brings me clarity of thought — its waves, as described by Jack London, are the 'knights of an endless sea army', possessing simplicity, elegance, power and freedom."
Another compelling series of photographs, also taken under a starry night sky, but this time in Palm Springs and shot by Tom Blachford.
